Poppy Run Goldens
FAQ
Where do your dogs live?
Our dogs are part of our family and live their lives right by our side in Aledo, TX. We do not kennel or tether them outside, ever!
Do you offer breeding rights?
At this time we do not offer full registrations with breeding rights. We are a new program and will re-evaluate this policy in the future. Puppy owners are expected to adhere to the spay/neuter contract described in the puppy contract.
Do you have a stud contract?
Please email us for stud inquiries.
Do you offer a health guarantee on puppies?
Yes, our limited health guarantee is explained in our puppy contract.
What food do you recommend for puppies?
Our top pick for puppy food is PawTree, and you can find more information regarding PawTree under our Helpful Resources tab. Other recommendations are Purina Pro Plan, Inukshuk, or Taste of the Wild puppy kibble, and top with a probiotic like unsweetened kefir, plain unsweetened Greek yogurt, or Purina FortiFlora.
Forms of Payment Accepted?
We currently accept Cash and Zelle.
What is an ethical breeder?
As an ethical breeder we strive to place each puppy in the happiest and healthiest forever home, and we never want to contribute to the shelter crisis. In the event that you can no longer care for your PRG pup at any age, please reach out to us so we can assist in the rehoming process.
We only breed for demand, meaning, we need a minimum amount of interest waiting before we proceed with a pairing.
Our dogs go through extensive health testing in order to determine if there are any known health risks with breeding. Of course, there are no guarantees, however we do our due diligence in order to produce healthy puppies to carry on the best of the breed.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
We don’t take “deposits” for unborn puppies. There are so many variables and scenarios possible, and litter sizes are never guaranteed. We choose to collect a reservation fee once a family has completed the puppy application and gone through our puppy home selection process. Once we have confirmed you as a potential home for one of our puppies, we will accept a reservation fee to be moved from “interest list” to “reservation list”. The fee is non-refundable and is applied towards the final adoption cost of the dog. Those that have a reservation fee on file will be notified of availability first. The reservation fee for 2024-2025 is $500.
What is the total adoption cost of a puppy from Poppy Run Goldens?
Once families have completed our application, our phone interview, and reserved their spot on our reservation list,
our 2024-2025 pricing begins at $2000 for our AKC Golden Retrievers and depending on stud used, coat, color traits, size, can range up to $3,500.
We extend a 10% discount to military, veterans, police/fire/dispatch first responders, nurses, and teachers. We also offer a PRG Family rate for repeat adopters.
Do you ship puppies?
Travel arrangements are solely the responsibility of the buyer. We do not ship or release our puppies to anyone other than the buyer.
Can I pass on a puppy if I'm on the reservation list?
Yes, absolutely. If you've already paid to reserve your spot, there are a few circumstances where someone may decide to pass on a litter. In this instance we will move your reservation to the next pairing.
Are your dogs health tested?
We do genetic health DNA screenings on all of our parent dogs through Embark which currently screens for 230+ genetic health risks or Paw Print Genetics for breed specific information and particular subtypes of genetic diseases. Our parent dogs are evaluated regularly by our primary veterinarian as well as a reproductive veterinary specialist. The science and knowledge that determines the best practices for breeders is ever expanding and changing. We work with mentors and veterinarians and are constantly striving to grow our program with the health of our dogs and puppies as the top priority. We remain open minded and curious as to new information that can be vital for the health and well being of our dogs.
Can I get first pick of the litter?
We thoroughly consider what is best for our puppies first! We want the puppy to have a voice in their placement. Our puppies are raised on an advanced (BAB) curriculum, and temperament tested at 7 weeks old to aid in finding the very best placements for our puppies. The results of these tests will be shared with those on our reservation list a few days before puppies go home.
